HISTORIC CHARLESTON WEDDING GUIDE
Historic Charleston is a popular destination for weddings, and there is a plethora of opportunities to create the perfect wedding tailored perfectly to your needs and specifications from elaborate to simple.
One can choose from a variety of locations for the wedding & reception from indoor or outdoor locations such as:
Charlestowne Landing Lowndes Grove Plantation with Good Food Caterer Rice Plantation Bennett House (Roper Hospital) Charleston Yacht Club – upstairs reception room Rehearsal dinner- Wentworth Mansion has small dining room.
And there are several city parks you may decide to use for your wedding.
White Point Gardens (with gazebo) Waterfront Park (overlooks Cooper River) Hampton Park (with gazebo) Washington Park (quaint with Charleston charm) Angel Oak Park (oldest living tree east of the Mississippi)
To reserve a park for your wedding, or any other event:
Contact the City of Charleston Recreation Department at 843-724-7327. Verify the date is available. They will fax or mail an application for the event to be held at the park. For more information, contact Bernadette Brown or Barbara Taylor Allow a few weeks for this process. Fees for the permit are based on the complexity of the event. Permits are subject to approval. By city ordinance, weddings held at the Waterfront Park or at White Point Gardens are limited to 25 people, in total, at the event (including the bride and groom in the count)
Unlike a city park, the beach is public property and you will not need a permit to hold your wedding on the beach. So, for the ever popular beach wedding:

Woodlands and Kiawah Sanctuary would be the two most elegant. The Historic Rice Mill Building is a great place for a reception on the water next to the marina with no grass anywhere, eliminating most bugs.
